Lead Scrap Recovery System
The ‘Lead scrap recovery’ is an automatic conveyor system for the lead scraps that come from the cutter and end up in the lead melting furnaces.
Every year, a battery plate cutter produces at least 1500 tons of lead scraps.
This is the estimate for a single plate cutter.
For large plants that produce millions of lead-acid batteries, the number of cuttings multiplies.
Usually these lead scraps are returned for a financial compensation, but these are obviously paid for as scrap and not as pure lead.
For example, if the price of lead is €0.60/kg, it means that in a year (for each cutter) approximately 900k€ of cuttings are produced.
The CAM solution is Automated Lead Scrap Recovery.
Thanks to the automatic lead scrap recovery system, it will be possible to use lead again for the production of lead batteries.
There are two paths:
– Casting of lead alloy scraps
– Casting of pure lead scraps
Depending on the type of scrap, these will be conveyed into melting ovens, thus saving the raw material for producing lead-acid batteries.
Scrap Recovery is made up as follows:
1. TNEL and TND model inclined belt conveyors
The belt conveyors have the task of transporting the lead scraps inside a container.
These are designed and made specifically for lead cutouts.
2. Container Elevator
The container elevator lifts the containers from level 0 to the discharge level, where the scraps are discharged into the storage silos. The system is completely automatic:
A manually opened safety gate is opened by the. The container is loaded onto the loading plane of the elevator.
After loading, the gate is closed by the operator and the start button
is pressed. The gate is controlled by means of a safety relay, so that if it were to open, the system would stop automatically, shutting down the electrical supply. The discharge plane is equipped with a tipper with a 90-degree hinge.
This allows to discharge all of the scraps that are inside the container.
3. SC20 Scrap Storage Silo
Scraps storage silo with capacity of 20 tons equipped with a discharge system into a vibrating hopper.
Weighing system
N.1 weighing system composed of n.4 load cells and anti-blocking system.
Scrap management is done by means of a conveyor belt with an automatic exchange system. Weighing capacity is (0÷50) kg by step.
CAM has already created several lead scrap recovery systems.
Below is a video example of how such a system is made:
