The benefit in the lead oxide production thanks to the Lead Shaving System
Thanks to the lead shaving system (LSS technology), today you can produce lead oxide without emissions and lead in the air.
In the previous article we described all the ‘economic and environmental’ benefits. If you haven’t read it, I recommend you read it because it can make a difference for you and your company. Do not waste time.
In this article, however, we describe the technical benefits.
In the next paragraphs we will describe and show you how the chemical-physical characteristics of lead oxide do not change compared to traditional production with casting cylinders.
1. Lead Oxide Grain Size
Over the years, many analyses have been carried out on the grain size of lead oxide produced by cylinder casting and milling methods such as the CAM Lead Shaver.
As you can see, there is very little difference between the lead oxides.
This analysis is fundamental for those who have to choose which technology they should invest in, because it removes many doubts about it.
2. Acid Absorption and Apparent Scott Density
Acid absorption is the second topic of interest regarding this innovative technology.
Acid absorption is directly proportional to the degree of permanent oxidation.
On average, with CAM’s MOP mills, the acid absorption of the lead oxide produced by cylinder casting, with an average oxidation of 74% is:
Approximately 260 g [H2SO4]/ 100 g [oxide],
whereas with the lead shaving system it is approximately 255 g [H2SO4]/ 100 g [oxide].
From these data we can see that a few acid absorption points are lost, but the oxide is in any case super reactive oxide always remains, so it is always convenient to use this technology.
On the other hand, the Scott bulk density, has no variations. In fact, the value of the apparent density is:
(1.1 – 1.3) kg/l for both types of feed material production process.
3. Why is it the only ‘cold’ system to produce cylinders
If you want to produce high-performance lead batteries, LSS Technology (Lead Shaving System) is the only system that manages to maintain the same lead oxide production.
This is because the lead ingot is SHAVED, and the same operating conditions are established inside the oxide mill compared to the smelting cylinders.
In contrast to other cold systems.
Conclusions
There is still a lot to do, but today there is a solution for the production of lead oxide and it is called LEAD SHAVING SYSTEM.
